The Detailed Search Option allows you to select a few more specific options than is possible on the Quick Search Tool Bar. Search criteria are also organized into 6 different sections, Location, Property Details, Schools, Property Type, MLS Quick Find and Display Options.

The additional options available using the Detailed Search are: Street Name and Property Subdivision, School Type and Name, Additional property types of Multi Family and Lot and Land. You can also specify how many results to display per page.

In all cases, multiple selections can be made from the drop down menus by holding down the shift key and left clicking your selections with the mouse while holding down the left mouse button.


Location

State: You can search listings in Virginia, Maryland and DC.

County: Both Maryland and Virginia use "County" as their primary regional descriptor. There are a few independent cities like Baltimore in Maryland and Falls Church City in Virginia. This drop down menu contains all of the counties and independent cities serviced by our offices. Select a single area or select multiple counties by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on your selections with the left mouse button. The default value is "All Counties". Washington DC is considered a single regional area and is on the list.

Zip: Searching by one or multiple zip codes is easy. Simply enter in the 5-digit zip code. Separate multiple zip codes using a comma.

City: Type in the city you are looking for. You can use an asterisk (*) as a wild card. Separate multiple cities using a comma.

Street: Type in the all or part of the street you are looking for. You can use an asterisk (*) as a wild card. Separate multiple streets using a comma.

Subdivision: Type in the subdivision you are looking for. You can use an asterisk (*) as a wild card. Separate multiple subdivisions using a comma.


Property Details

For Sale-For Rent-Active Listings: Check the appropriate box(es) to narrow your search criteria. We provide information on listings that are Active and Under Contract, however if you only want to see fully available listings, you can check that box and only fully available listings will be displayed.

Minimum / Maximum Price: Default value for these criteria are $400,000 and $800,000 respectively. Make sure you specify your price range. Rental Hint: If you are looking for a Rental, change these values to see what's available in your price range.

Minimum Bedrooms / Minimum Baths: Let us know the how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need - at a minimum.


Schools

School Type: specify Elementary, Middle or High School. In our area, Elementary School "typically" includes grades K-6; Middle School includes grades 7-8 and High School is grades 9-12. However some jurisdictions use different grade groupings. It is best to check with the local school board to see what grades a particular school includes.

School Name: You can specify all or part of the school name. Example: Churchill Road School can be entered as "Churchill*"


Property Type

Single Family Home: The majority of the properties in our database are considered Single Family Homes, however there are many different types of property that qualify as "Single Family" homes. Detached means a house that does not share a wall with another residence. A townhouse is a home that is attached by one or two walls to another residence. A townhouse can be located in a row of houses or it can be a single side of a duplex (two residences that share a common wall). Garden 1-4 floors; Mid-Rise 5-8 floors; and Hi-Rise 9+ floors are usually various types of condominiums or apartments.

Multi Family: These types of properties are usually either complete apartment buildings with multiple units or both sides of a duplex being sold as one property.

Lot and Land: Open land parcels offered for sale. Occasionally a property will be listed as land even if there is a dwelling on it. In such cases, the dwelling is usually sold "As-Is" with the expectation that it will be renovated or demolished. Sometimes a property may be listed under both Single Family detached and as land depending on the size of the lot and the potential for future development.


MLS Quick Find

MLS ID: Enter up to three MLS# for quick, pinpoint searching. Each property in our multiple listing service is identified with a unique alpha-numeric ID consisting of 2 letters followed by 7 digits. The letter portion identifies the general geographic location of the property. Example Fairfax County = "FX"; City of Alexandria is "AX".


Display Options

Results per page: Display your listings in groups of 10, 20 or 30 properties at a time.

Order By: You can sort your search results by Price: Low to High; Price: High to Low, Listing Status (active listings shown first) or by Days on the Market. Want to see the newest listings first? Select Days on the Market. All of the listings displayed on our site provide the list date so you can see exactly how long a property has been on the market - possibly useful information when making a purchase offer!
